13th Adam Dealey Golf Day 2008

Image - Header Line

To be held at Verulam Golf Club, St. Albans, Hertfordshire
Friday 10th October 2008

Hi Everyone!

Now that we have just about recovered from last year’s event we are just starting getting around to organising this year’s which has a slightly different edge.

First of all Virgin Management have nominated The Adam Dealey Foundation supporting The Bone Cancer Research Trust as one of three charities that they will be supporting throughout the year and already several fund raisers have taken place at the office.

The golf this year will take place on Friday 10th October and it so happens that on Sunday 12th October the inaugural Royal Parks Half Marathon  is taking place in London and this has therefore been christened The Adam Dealey Fundraising weekend.

So lets give you the heads up on what’s happening…

The Annual Golf Day

Friday the 10th kicks off with The Adam Dealey Annual Golf Day and Gala Dinner which will be held at the Verulam Golf Club followed by the Dinner which takes place at Sopwell House Hotel, both venues are in St Albans and you can check them out by visiting the following links:

I am still negotiating the final prices etc. but am hoping that it will be the same as last year.

  • Golf event: The golf is limited to teams of 4 and the cost per head will includes bacon rolls and coffee on arrival followed by a round of golf and then the gala dinner/disco in the evening.
  • Evening only event: If you wish to come along for the evening  three course meal /disco  only then that’s fine as with any additional guests you wish to bring if playing in the golf.
  • For those of you that want to stay over and chill on the Saturday the hotel are to offer a special rate which will be confirmed in due course.

I have over the past few weeks received many e mails and phone calls wanting to know dates etc. and it is almost certain that the golf will be oversubscribed and the fairest way once the invitations go out in approx a weeks time is to allocate places on a first come first served basis with returned paid entry forms. Wherever possible I will try to accommodate everyone that wants to play.

Now here’s where you can also help, the success of the event each year relies heavily on sponsorship and people coming forward with prizes for the raffle/auction and some of you have already kindly donated prizes, but I should be delighted to hear from anyone who can help in these areas. Last year this was an absolute nightmare so anyway you can help would be greatly appreciated.

We had over 200 people attending the evening last year and it looks that we will be well up on this figure this year.

Royal Parks Half Marathon - Sunday 12th October 2008

If I manage to survive the day and chill out on the Saturday I can all look forward to the Sunday run.
Royal Parks Half Marathon.

Already in the region of 40 people mainly from Virgin have signed up to run for Adam on behalf of BCRT but we still have spaces if you or any of your team/guests wish to take this leisurely stroll through the parks in the inaugural event (some of those that have signed up have never even run for a bus so don’t be put off).

I will be there and am delighted that the The Bone Cancer Research Trust are one of the selected charities to be invited to have a stand at this event. To enter if you would like to have a go just complete the attached PDF form and get it back to me as soon as possible, I will pay the entry in return for the commitment to raise £300.

You will also get a nice Adam Dealey/BCRT Tee shirt as well as enjoying what promises to be a real fun day.

Again if you are not running you will be more than welcome to come along and cheer members of the team on or pop in on the BCRT stand.

Fundraising Update

As you are aware all monies raised in memory of Adam now go to The Bone Cancer Research Trust of which I am deputy chair and during the past few months I have been to The Institute of Childcare based at Great Ormond Street to see first hand how they are progressing with one of the first approved grants.

We recently held our second annual conference and at the same time launched Bone Cancer Awareness week. This was the subject of an early day motion in “The House” and received support from MP’s of all parties, in addition the campaign was featured on national radio and television as well as local radio and press throughout the country.

Also attached is the latest BCRT magazine which includes features on Adam , last years golf day as well as the many things that have either taken place or will happen in the near future.

I am very proud that a lot of this has developed from the work done in Adam’s memory and this year in total since we started raising money exactly 13 years ago we will surpass the £250,000 landmark which is something that could not have achieved without your continued support.

Finally as I have said the official invites will go out in about a week’s time and look forward to seeing you on the day or in the evening but if in the meantime you have any questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Thank you again for your support as always it is greatly appreciated.  If you wish to come to this event please complete the golf form or contact me directly.

Kind Regards
